Five Good 3D Printers You Can Buy Before The Holiday

If you’re looking to build your own Christmas tree out of plastic this year, you’ve come to the right place. I’ve collected my five favorite 3D printers that you should be able to order and receive before or on Christmas. While it might be tough to get one or two of these on such short notice if the ones you love want to do some 3D printing, you can do no better than these five.

Makerbot Replicator 5th Gen

The Makerbot 5th Gen should be the easiest printer to find in stores. Despite a great deal of complaining regarding the new extruder I’ve had this model for over a year and it is my go-to printer. The Makerbot sets the standard for ease-of-use in 3D printing and is generally one of the best systems I’ve used.

XYZprinting da Vinci 1.0 AiO 3D Printer/Scanner

This odd printer might be available in stores this weekend and is worth a look. It is currently priced at about $600 and includes a built-in 3D scanner along with a standard 3D printer. While it’s far from perfect and the software is rough it is definitely a fun – and cheap – little printer.

The cute little Afinia H-Series costs $1,299 but is a solid piece of work. Made of metal and plastic, this bare-bones unit can print high quality items using ABS plastic.

Ultimaker 2 3D Printer

The Ultimaker 2 has been taking home the prize for base printer for most of this year and it deserves it. Priced at $2,499 this thing is a bit more expensive than I’d like but it’s a solid machine with a great interface and well worth the investment.

Solidoodle Press 2.0

The Solidoodle Press 2.0 is a bulbous entry-level printer at a price anyone could love. I’ve tested it and came away very impressed. At only $399 you get an enclosed, solid printer with nice software and a great interface. The bad news? It will take 2 to 3 weeks to arrive so you will probably miss Christmas… but there’s always Valentine’s Day?
